What is family dentistry?

Family dentistry is essentially an area of dentistry that caters to the whole family. As a family dentist, I've treated patients across three generations. I've had the pleasure of seeing the grandparents, their children, and now their grandchildren. That's what I consider family dentistry.

What are the benefits of family dentistry?

The benefits of family dentistry include getting to know each family and being able to provide dental care across generations. It's incredibly rewarding to see children grow and mature over the years. Some of my patients who were once teenagers are now adults. Watching my patients grow up alongside me is a unique experience and one of the reasons I love family dentistry.

Do all dentists offer family dentistry?

No, not all dentists offer family dentistry. Some dentists only treat adults and refer children to a pedodontist, a dentist who specializes in treating children. In my office, we love children. Oftentimes, parents bring their children in first to see if we can handle them. If we can handle their kids, they figure we can handle adults too. I find that children are often my biggest fans and are quick to defend me to their friends.

What services fall under family dental care?

Family dental care includes almost all dental services, but it primarily focuses on maintenance. We ensure that the whole family receives regular check-ups and cleanings every six months. If there are issues, like bleeding gums, we encourage more frequent visits. For children with braces, we try to see them every three months if needed. The primary goal is to maintain the oral health of the entire family.

How can I find a good dentist for my family in San Diego?

Finding a good dentist often comes down to referrals from friends or family. In San Diego, we have a large military population, and servicemembers often move from station to station. They usually ask their friends for dentist recommendations. You might also consider the location of the dentist's office. We have two locations, one in Paui and one in National City, for your convenience. Some of our patients live in National City but work in Miramissa, so they visit our Paui office after work. We also offer Saturday appointments for added convenience.
